Tai Tam Scout Centre

Tai Tam Scout Centre

Introduction

Tai Tam Scout Centre is the only campsite and activity center owned by the "Scout Association of Hong Kong" (the Association) in Hong Kong Island. Situated in Tai Tam Valley and adjacent to Tai Tam Bay in the Island South, the Centre provides lodging accommodation, wild-camping area and facilities for outdoor and water activities. The Centre is ideal for schools, religious, commercial as well as non-profit organizations to organize training camp, orientation, outdoor educational camp, retreats and social activities, etc.

History and Development

After World War I, Hong Kong was left in a ruined state, and scouting movement in the city was gradually recovering. The Association subsequently bought a land from the Government next to the seashore in Chai Wan at a cost of HK$16,000 and turned it into a campsite, which was officially named as "Chai Wan Campsite" and opened in 1929. To cope with the city's urbanization, Chai Wan Campsite was resumed in 1970 and current site of the Centre was offered in return. The Centre was officially opened in September 1972. In 2019, we are pleased to announce that our Centre had been accredited by the World of Scouting Movement (WOSM) as "A Scout Centre of Excellence for Nature, Environment and Sustainability" (SCENES), which was the first campsite in Hong Kong. To achieve the goals of sustainable development and connecting with the nature environment, our staff will strive our best to actively organize more environmental education, nature protection and nature-oriented activities and trainings in the future.
