TRAINING BRANCH INTRODUCTION

The roles of the Training Branch are to formulate and execute training policies, to organize training courses and activities for adult leaders, as well as to coordinate all matters in relation to Leaders' Training.

LEADERS WOOD BADGE TRAINING

photoWood Badge training is a world recognized training scheme for Scout Leaders. Wood Badge is an insignia to identify that the holder has completed the strict Scout Leader Training, and is an elite leader who is trained to bring better Scouting to the Scouts.

Wood badge training taking the form of a series of training courses comprises both theories and practices. Through diversified lectures and activities, like action-centred leadership training, camping, hiking, mapping, pioneering, light weight cooking and footdrilling, it assists to enhance leaders' competency in organizing, problem-solving, creativity, communication and presentation.

Duration of training varies for different training courses. Normally, the most basic one lasts for about 10 hours, and the more advanced one may last for 5 to 6 days.

Concerning the course fee, it costs approximately HK$1,000 for completing the whole series of Training.

photoHONG KONG TRAINING TEAM

Led by the Assistant Chief Commissioner (Training), the Hong Kong Training Team is responsible for the planning, organizing, and executing of all matters related to Leader Training. To ensure efficient and effective running of training courses and activities, Training Team members are assigned to work in the Regional sub-teams led by the Regional Training Commissioners.

WOOD BADGE TRAINING SCHEME

Trainings provided by the Training Branch are classified into the following categories:

Wood Badge Training Scheme General Information Course anyone wishes to pursue an introductory understanding of Scouting
Fundamentals Training Course Sectional Leaders (Group Scout Leaders, Non-Sectional Leaders, Commissioners, Administrators may apply Sectional Training Courses, but they only have second priority.)
Sectional Skills Course
Advanced Course
Cadet Training Course Anyone who wants to have some preservice training before joining the Association as an adult leader.
Trainers' Basic Course
(Module I, II & III)
Training Auxiliary
District Staff Training Course District Staff

In order to enhance traditional skills and knowledge, a variety of technical skill courses are designed for adult leaders, such as Pioneering Course, Expedition Assessor Course, Orienteering Course, Knotting Course, Action-centred Leadership Course and Decision Making & Strategic Planning Course, etc.

The Training Branch is also responsible for arranging scout leaders to participate in overseas training, with a view to widen their horizon.

OTHER SERVICES

In addition to organizing training courses and activities, the Training Branch also operates a Scout Library. The library has a wide collection of books which can be used by leaders for reference purposes.
